Paul Cowan made Vicar of St George’s Newbury

A coach -full from All Saints Wokingham travelled to Wash Common Newbury yesterday for the service to install The Reverend Paul Cowan as Vicar of Newbury St George in The Newbury Team Ministry. The Bishop of Reading presided and preached; licensing Paul to the role for a period initially of 7 years; and the Archdeacon of Berkshire installed him. After the service whilst we enjoyed an extremely generous and well-prepared reception buffet Paul spoke warmly of the wonderful welcome the parish had given to him, his wife Hannah and their two children.
Bishop Stepehen preached memorably on the text “If you want to enter the kingdom of God you must become like a little child”.
St George’s serves the Newbury suburb of Wash Common. It describes itself as a broad church in the Catholic tradition of the Church of England seeking to be open to its local community and a place of welcome to young families.
Paul served his title post as assistant curate All Saints Wokingham from 2002 til 2005 before spending a year on secondment in South Africa at the Cathedral of the Diocese of Kimberley and Kuruman.
