Emma presides for first time at Eucharist

All Saints’ curate-in-training The Reverend Emma Antoine presided at the Eucharist for the first time last Sunday at Parish Communion. After the service the congregation gathered in The Cornerstone where celebratory wine and cakes were served. On behalf of the church the Rector presented Emma with a card and a cheque to purchase a new stole and afterwards Emma cut a special cake. She thanked the congregation for the support and incredibly warm welcome shown to her since she had arrived in the parish last May.

Emma was among seven deacons ordained as priests at Reading Minster on Sunday 24th September by the Bishop of Reading. She is currently serving her “title” post at All Saints Wokingham. As a priest Emma is now authorised to preside at celebrations of the Eucharist, to bless the people in the name of God, to absolve people in Christ’s name, and to officiate at weddings.

This was the first ocasion that a woman had presided at the Eucharist in All Saints since the death of The Reverend Janet Lucas, former Community Priest, in 2003.
