Churches Together in Wokingham to gather at All Saints

All Saints will be the host for the first of the new year’s ecumenical united services in Wokingham. Members of Churches Together in Wokingham will gather to mark the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. As an international observance the service will contain material prepared by the churches of South Africa. Its theme is “He even makes the deaf to hear and the mute to speak”. Prayer material included in the service reflects on the suffering and death caused there by HIV/AIDS . In the face of the shame of the victims and the ignorance of ways of preventing it Christ gives courage to speak out. The British and Irish organisers recommend that prayer in this country might include reflection on experiences of overlooked suffering in our own communities.
The service is set in the framework of a normal worship style of the host church and so will be at heart a service of Choral Evensong – a form of worshipping God through sacred music and poetic language based throughout on scriptural quotations.
