Scary Amy at Kettlewell Scarecrow festival 2008

We went to the Kettlewell scarecrow festival today. Crowds were pouring into the village when we arrived and a huge field given over to carparking especially for the occasion was filling up quickly.
We were looking forward to a treat having been immensely impressed when we visited for the first time in 2006. Sadly the quality and originality this year did not match two years ago: with the exception of the displays in the church. Here were scarecrows depicting events and teachings of the life of Christ which were very effective. Some of the exhibits in the rest of the village were the same as in 2006 and others looked perfunctorily made up. There were terrible rains on the opening day last week so this might have depleted the quality in some cases. However, if the event is to continue to draw I think its going to need a fresh injection of energy and enthusiasm.
